Piquet to Secure Campos Seat Soon - Reports

Nelsinho Piquet's days outside Formula One are numbered. At least that's how things are going if we are to trust Spanish motor racing website Motor21.com, who reported on Monday that Piquet will join Bruno Senna in the Campos-Meta Racing lineup for the 2010 season of F1.

It's worth mentioning, however, that the story was not picked up by any of the other big publications in Spain or Brazil. In addition to that, some of the information disclosed by the Spanish site – not necessarily regarding Piquet's potential contract with the team – are yet to be confirmed by some official voices from within the Spanish organization.

First of all, the publication said that Piquet's 3-year contract with Campos – which will allegedly be signed in the upcoming few days – has a lot to do with his father, triple F1 champion Nelson Piquet, buying into the Spanish outfit. Piquet reportedly bought 15 percent of Adrian Campos' team in order to ensure his son a speedy return to the series.

Piquet Sr. was indeed in the center of some rumors regarding a potential share-buying of the Campos team earlier this autumn, but neither him nor the Spanish officials commented on it.

In addition to that news, Motor21.com said several sponsors are lined up to back Piquet into F1. However, some pieces of the puzzle don't match up.

First of all, there is no confirmation of Piquet Sr. buying into the Spanish team. Secondly, we find it hard to believe a strong Brazilian sponsor would associate its image with Piquet Sr., following the race fixing scandal he has been in the center of earlier this year. Thirdly (and probably most important), the day of December 28 is known as 'Day of the Innocents' in Spanish culture, which is similar to April Fools' Day.
