Piquet Favorite for Campos Seat Thanks to His Father

One should not hurry to see Nelson Piquet in a World Camping Truck machinery next year. Soon after several reports surfaced in the media regarding his future test with a Toyota Tundra racer in the Truck Series, the Brazilian driver insisted that his main focus for the time being is to secure a place in the 2010 Formula One championship.

Just like Jarno Trulli – who will also conduct a Sprint Cup test in NASCAR for Michael Waltrip Racing – Piquet revealed that going back to Formula One is everything that counts at the moment, as his chances of him doing so have just received a considerable boost. Once again, it is his father to step in to influence his son's future in the Great Circle.

As it emerged in recent months, the triple world champion is linked with a sponsorship deal over newly entrants Campos Grand Prix, which will consequently guarantee Junior a place in the 2010 roster. However, the rumor has not been confirmed by either Piquet Snr. or Adrian Campos, the owner of Campos Racing.

In the meantime, however, the 24-year old Piquet pointed out that his focus is strictly on returning to F1 action and wanted to clear that up until further rumors will emerge from his NASCAR test. In addition, he told the media what exactly he'll need when going back to F1.

I want to clear up this business rapidly so it doesn't stay with me for the rest of my life. I need a decent team, a decent engineer. A team that believes in me. I don't know which one it will be but I do know I will go back to racing,” Piquet told Brazil's Globo TV in an interview.

Some other drivers linked with a racing spot with Campos Grand Prix are Formula One veterans Pedro de la Rosa and Marc Gene, as well as GP2 rising stars Vitaly Petrov and Sergio Perez. No official statement on the team's lineup for 2010 is expected from Campos until the season finale at Abu Dhabi.
