Right now, the B-car market segment is crowed by the three most amazing hot hatchlings ever made, all powered by 1.6-liter turbo engines and all crammed full of the latest technology. Of the three, the Peugeot 208 GTi promises to be the most comfortable and refined, but the Lion doesn't want us to see it as a big softy and so it's sending one to race at the famous 24-hour endurance race at the Nurburgring.
The race that will take place this weekend will see Bradley Philpot behind the whee of the GTi, together with three other country-representing drivers from France, Germany and Spain in his team.
The race car which will race VLN series is called the Sport 208 GTi and is the fourth race car based on the 208, after the T16, R2 and Racing Cup. Its engine has been re-tuned from the 200 hp of the stock hot hatch to 300 hp. This engine is accompanied by a 6-speed gearbox operated by paddle shifters. It is equipped with a reinforced braking system, 18'' wheels, a 100-litre petrol tank and aerodynamics designed to take advantage from the race regulations to the limits. Thanks to lighter components and a stripped down interior, it only weighs 990 kg, as opposed to the 1,160 kg of the stock car.
Making a hot hatch is one thing, but without a racing team to show it off there's no way to promote it.
