Peregrinate Concept, a Hotel's Image on the Road

Having one of those jobs anybody would love (seating in a chair all day and surfing the web for whatever) we keep coming across very interesting projects, design exercises, drawings, degree projects and so on. Although most of the work presented in our Concept Car category will probably never become reality, seeing design artists work their magic with whatever computer program is surely a treat.

So is the case with the Peregrinate Concept, the work of Gabriel Tam, a young Royal College of Arts student. Created as a “chauffeur driven vehicle design for designer/boutique hotels,” the Peregrinate Concept is meant to be an extension of the hotel on the road.

The car has been drawn starting from a luxury saloon, but with all the existing monotonous design taken out. With a wheelbase a touch smaller than that of a Mercedes S-Klasse, the Peregrinate is made of exterior body panels - made of Lexan polycarbonate with gradient shading.

Not usually seen in a saloon, the car features sliding doors for better ingress and egress, optional rack near the driver for better security and, hold on, chairs made of modern furniture and painted with technogel, an unique “soft solid” material that blends the 3D deformation of a fluid and the memory shape of a solid.

“Peregrinate is about creating a classic modernist design that transgress different landscape and city environment” says Tam on his website.

Being a purpose built vehicle, the Peregrinate has to reflect the business it was created for. In the case of the car presented here, Tam says it is a reflection of the Fontana Park Hotel in Lisbon.
