Pedrosa Still Sees Rossi as Title Rival in 2011

Many see Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner as the main two contenders for the MotoGP title in 2011, with a little edge for the latter thanks to the much-acclaimed new Honda RC212V. Of course, Dani Pedrosa can never be counted out of that fight, with the Spaniard also enjoying the great progress made by Honda prior to the upcoming campaign.

However, as far as the Spanish rider is concerned, not all questions regarding the 2011 MotoGP season have been answered, with the biggest uncertainty being Valentino Rossi.

The fact that the man has won 7 MotoGP titles in the last decade sure draws a lot of respect within the MotoGP field, and Pedrosa admits he will never rule out the Doctor from any title fight. Despite the fact that he's still recovering from his shoulder injuries last year and is yet to make an impression with his new Ducati in the timing reports in testing, Rossi is believed to have what it takes to challenge for an 8th world title.

The great unknown quantity will perhaps be Rossi,” wrote Pedrosa on his personal blog. “It's his first year with Ducati and in Malaysia he wasn't amongst the fastest riders. But Rossi is Rossi, and you can never rely on anything. Even when he's in last place on the Saturday he still has the capacity to surprise.”

While admitting that Honda has made some great progress for the 2011 campaign – having topped all test sessions in Malaysia in early February – Pedrosa pointed to the two Yamaha riders as his main competition for 2011.

At the moment everything points towards a tough World Championship. The Yamaha continues to have a good rhythm lap upon lap. Lorenzo, as the defending Champion, is a rival to beat, and Spies had a great season in 2010 and will certainly be better this year,” ended Pedrosa.
