TX2K is a motoring phenomenon that has existed for the past quarter of a century – most recently in a new home at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. It's a great venue and even for promoting safe and street-legal racing. But it's also home to a few quarter-mile dragstrip' monsters.'
TX2K24 – the edition this year – was certainly one of the must-see street car events of the year. It happened between March 12 and 17, but its echoes reverberate for much longer – mostly thanks to the ultra-diverse lineup of vehicles, from six-second Mustangs to mega supercars blowing past 220 mph during the roll-racing categories.

It had just about everything – and it was more than enough to entertain the near-capacity crowd at the historical venue of Texas Motorplex, located just outside of Dallas (40 miles south of downtown). There were crashes, there were new world records in some categories, there were sleepers, and then there were exotics. Plus, just about everything in between – the roster had around 500 cars lined up for drag and roll racing!

The classes were also pretty diverse – traditional 2JZ and Supra categories for the purists, stick and DCT options, Street Car Elite and Pro, Stick, and some even reserved for GT-Rs. In the midst of it all, there were also some social media outlets that loved to keep tabs on everything that happened there. For example, the good folks over at the racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube were on point in Texas and have steadily churned out one video after another with their coverage.

The latest one involves a patriotic-looking R35 Nissan GT-R, allegedly a 2,000-horsepower fire-breathing and gasoline-eating monster that was ready to devour the competition. Entered into the GTR 68 class, this could be the winner's ride - Marcelo Duran. To put things into perspective, the star-spangled GT-R went against a white GT-R modified by Cicio Performance, and it had a beautiful beating – 7.38s versus 7.78s for the blue GT-R.

Next up, the Japanese supercar went head-to-head against a mighty Dodge Viper in one of the 65-mph roll racing classes – while it posted a lower trap speed (206 versus 226 mph!), it still won the skirmish. Thirdly, a green GT-R lined up with it next, and the monsters were 'close, but not close enough,' hence another victory of 7.14s versus 7.37s. Last, but not least, the well-known Alpha GT-R was also present and accounted for and met the blue GT-R in the final leg of the competition – they both clearly did their best to achieve ultimate victory.

Again, the patriotic GT-R proved better and quicker – 7.02 versus 7.43s, and the race was history. TX2K might have initially started as a Toyota Supra get-together for close friends, but today, it has become a humongous crowd-pleaser that brings out some of the wildest 'street-car' shootouts in America, regardless of the niche or brand.
