Parr Revises Illegal Allegations over Ferrari & Renault

Williams F1 CEO Adam Parr insisted his comments during the International Court of Appeal hearing on April 14th were misinterpreted by the media & the other teams and said he didn't mean to make defamatory remarks on Ferrari and Renault.

While defending the double-decker diffuser before the ICA, Parr argued that the design used by his team is just as legal as the ones used by their rivals in the previous season. Therefore, if Ferrari and Renault are protesting the diffusers as being illegal, then they consequently admit having used illegal parts in the previous seasons themselves.

However, after both Ferrari's Stefano Domenicali and Renault's Flavio Briatore urged Parr to further explain his position on the diffuser saga, the Williams official revealed his comments were not directed at the rival teams but solely aimed at creating a good legal defense in the trial.

“I think that there has been a very fundamental misunderstanding of what happened in the court on Tuesday,” said Parr, referring to his comments on the rival teams.

“It was never our case that their cars were illegal. It was, if anything, their case. So we rejected that as being quite wrong. I want to be absolutely clear, on the record, that we have never said and we do not believe that for one minute either the Ferrari cars, or Renault cars, or anyone else's cars, for the last eight years have been illegal. What we say is that they, and we, have used the same principles for eight or nine years,” added the Williams official.

Parr insisted he doesn't want his relationship with Stefano Domenicali to change because of these allegations and revealed he'll have a discussion with the Ferrari team principal as soon as possible.

“Stefano Domenicali is a man who you cannot but respect. We've known him in his previous role for many years and one of the first things I did when he became the team principal was, when I spoke to Tim Newton (Williams team manager) I said he was a guy you could always trust. I would just hate anybody to think that there was any disagreement between myself and Stefano, or between Williams and Ferrari,” concluded Parr.
