Briatore Fumes at FIA for Irresponsible Decision

Flavio Briatore fumed at FIA for legalizing the controversial double-decker rear diffuser design in Formula 1. After the International Court of Appeal decided the aforementioned diffusers are compliant with the technical regulations of the FIA, the Renault boss accused the international body for trying to bring back “ground effects” into the sport.

“After the death of Senna the principle was to not give certain (ground) effects to the cars, but now suddenly it's all legal,” said an enraged Briatore in an interview for Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

He insisted the ICA decision will make it impossible Renault to have any title hopes this year, as it would be impossible to recover the lost ground to Brawn GP. In addition, “the new order” in Formula 1 created more chaos for the fans and turned two mediocre drivers – he didn't exactly put it like that but we're pretty sure that's what he meant – into title bidders.

“It is impossible to recover the ground we have lost on those teams. In three or four races the championship will be decided and I don't know what the interest of the TV viewers will be when Button has 60 points and Nakajima 50. It will be better to listen only on radio and watch something else.”

“Our drivers are or have been world champions, and then you have a (Brawn) driver who was almost retired, and another who is a 'paracarro', fighting for the championship. I don't know how we can say we have credibility,” added Briatore. We're yet to find out who was the Italian referring to when using the term “paracarro”, which stands for concrete roadside post in Italian.
