Park Avenue “Moves” to China

The Chinese automotive market is welcoming another model as Shanghai General Motors is presenting a "new" member of the Buick family, the Park Avenue luxury sedan. I don't know who was the marketing genius who decided to have this car named like a street located in New York City, U.S.A. to the Chinese, but it's a good thing they didn't try to sell the Park Avenue to the Russians or the North-Koreans.

Anyway, Shanghai GM officials are extremely confident about the success of the new model, including Shanghai GM President Ding Lei: “The Park Avenue is the perfect blend of tranquility and power. It shows Buick’s ability to move with the times while continuing to leverage GM’s global resources and our local knowledge. Designed especially for business leaders and other elites, it is a component of our effort to maintain our leadership position in China by addressing the needs of all of our customers.”

The Buick Park Avenue is 5,175 mm long, 1,899 mm wide and 1,480 mm high. Its wheelbase is of 3,009 mm, based on the GM rear wheel drive platform. This Buick is designed to be a luxury vehicle, with 8 way adjusting front seats, which also have a massage function, and LCD panel entertainment system. Like every other luxury car, the GPS navigation system is mandatory, this one containing road information for about 300 cities in China.

Two motorization options are available, one is a 3.6 liter which can develop 250 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 340 Nm at 3,200 rpm, and one a 2.8 liter engine, which develops 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 265 Nm at 3,000 rpm.
