Panamera Hybrid, Diesel Could See Geneva Debut

Porsche is likely to unveil both the diesel and hybrid version of the Panamera at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show in March. According to a recent AutoNews report, while the German carmaker is typically tight-lipped, an inside source has stated that both models should arrive before Summer, indicating a Geneva debut as likely. Last year, the manufacturer also chose the Geneva Auto Show to show both diesel and hybrid versions of its Cayenne SUV. Just like the rest of the range, the luxury saloon’s new diesel mill should be shared with the Cayenne, meaning the Panamera Diesel would get a 3.0-liter V6 with 240 hp mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. As for the hybrid, it could arrive with around 380 hp, thanks to a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 coupled with an electric motor. Along with the debut, the company is expected to make an announcement regarding sales of the diesel Cayenne and Panamera in North America. "We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the U.S. this year. Also a Panamera diesel is an option," Bernhard Maier, the brand's sales and marketing chief. The Cayenne diesel has been available in Europe since early 2009, while the gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced last year. Maier said he has noticed that consumers in the US are increasingly choosing diesel cars for their fuel efficiency.
