Over One Million Ford Fiestas Have Been Produced

After 28 months from its original production debut, the latest generation of Ford Fiesta has reached a significant milestone, as the B-segment model from the Blue Oval has been produced in more than 1,000,000 units.

Over the past 24 months, the Fiesta has been the best-selling car in Europe in the small car segment and the best-selling Ford. So far, a total of 1,140,000 units have been produced globally.

This latest batch of figures confirm the significance of the Fiesta for the carmaker, of which 14 million units have been produced since 1976, when the first generation was launched. In Europe, the compact car is manufactured at plants in Cologne, Germany and Valencia, Spain. However, it is also produced in Nanjing (China), Rayong (Thailand) and Cuautitlàn (Mexico) and then sold globally in over 100 markets.

Ford of Europe's Executive Director of Design, Martin Smith, used words like “precision sculpted”, “agile muscularity” and “toned athleticism” to describe the Ford design philosophy that has created the Ford Fiesta. The car wears the distinctive, bold Ford face. Most noticeably, it uses the signature large inverted trapezoidal lower grille and large Ford oval badge that characterizes both the Verve Concept and other modern Ford family vehicles.

Creating a striking, kinetic exterior shape was just one part of the new Fiesta design story and the Ford Verve Concept that preceded it. The new Fiesta features bold styling on the inside as well, with courageous use of dynamic lines, full surfaces and bold graphics.

The Fiesta engine range, with four 16-valve Duratec petrol and two Duratorq TDCi diesel engine choices, offers substantial fuel savings as well as reduced emissions over the previous generation.
