Do you ever wake up in the morning with an almost self-torturing desire to browse the classifieds and see what kind of crazy vehicles are up for sale that you can't really afford? Say you're in the mood for getting a rare vehicle and you've got around $200,000 to spend: how do you use up that budget?
Surely you've read our Car Buying Guides, where we urge you to consider the most important characteristics the vehicle you're about to buy should have, but sometimes buying vehicles is not really a very logical process. Sometimes you just let your inner desires take the lead and see where they take you.

Just look at this original owner BMW Z8 we found over on Bring a Trailer. We know it doesn't really make sense to pay almost $200,000 on a car that has been time and time again criticized for its poor handling, but just look at it. Yes, there's also the idea that you can get the same engine and more cabin space if you opt for a more traditional BMW M5 E39, and at a fraction of the budget.

In fact, you can get the M5 E39 for under $30,000 these days, which is just about 10% of what you'd pay for one of the more expensive Z8s out on the used cars market. But still, would you look at this thing! Only 5,703 Z8s were ever built, and only about half of those were intended for the North American market.

Can you actually remember ever seeing a BMW Z8 going down the road with your own eyes? I've had the pleasure of seeing two of these over the past decade, but they were on display at two different shows I've attended, so yes, the unique factor is certainly there.

This 2000 BMW Z8 was acquired new by the owner in Rockville, Maryland, and has traveled only 17,000 miles (27,358 km) since. The current bid sits at $162,000, which is quite decent, considering that for a similar budget, you'd get a Z8 with more than 100,000 miles (161,000 km) on the European market.

Sure, there are a few scratches and tears, but for a 20-year-old car, that's still nothing to be afraid of. Honestly, if you're not looking for a track weapon and already have other fast cars to quench your thirst for adrenaline, this BMW Z8 might just be a good investment for the future, as its value is bound to rise over the next few years.
