The PSA Peugeot-Citroen group has been in talks with GM for several months now, trying to find some sort of solution for poor sales in Europe. It was said that the two automakers would first build the replacement for the Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1, on a common GM platform, while the next Citroen C5 would have been built alongside the Insignia, in Germany.
However, no actual plans have been made thus far, yet Opel’s interim CEO, Thomas Sedran, says that is soon about to change. "The quality of the talks is really very good. And the operational and technical advantages are so great that we will surely will be able to wrap up soon the negotiations on joint vehicle development," said Serdan.

The plan of attack is to develop four new models together by 2016/2017. These are expected to be a replacement for the Opel Zafira MPV, two compact cars and a successor for the Citroen C5 and Insignia, which will most likely mean the death of Citroen’s clever Hydractive suspension, which is only offered as an option on the current C5.

Opel is also looking to become more popular in Turkey and Russia, two countries where ‘German’ cars are highly-appreciated, and if they succeed, Peugeot and Citroen will also benefit. However, as it has happened before, at the first sign of wobbly economics, the two parties will back out, and talks will cease, so nothing is set in stone yet.
