A California resident or a bike enthusiast in Germany, if you're connected to the internet, then this turn should look very familiar. It's not about the scenery, and in fact there's nothing that special about it, save for the fact that an awful lot of riders go down in that place.
After watching countless videos of guys riding through that turn I realized that it is by no means more difficult than other tight turns in the Alps or the amazing Transfagarasan road in Romania.

The difference between thos who ride around the bend and those who crash, is in almost all the cases determined by the skill of the rider, linked to how cool he or she wants to look, dragging a knee.

While the Snake is no MotoGP track, it's easy to figure out that knee dragging along the tightest bend on the Snake is a thing only few can do. For the rest of the Rossi-wannabes, it's always a trip to the dealer for repairs. Or to the hospital, for the less lucky ones.
