Produced between 1971 and 1994 over three generations, the Leone is a bit of a rarity in the United States of America. Truth be told, it’s even rarer to find a one-owner car with a generous binder of records that includes the window sticker, service records, owner’s manual, and all that jazz.
eBay seller mrdeezy found one such Leone in California, a 1985 model with the GL equipment group, four-wheel drive, and the turbocharged boxer engine option. Currently showing in the ballpark of 102,000 miles (164,153 kilometers) on the odometer, the Scooby “has been kept under a cover in Aptos, California its whole life. The original owner recently passed away at age 92, and the vehicle went through probate and is titled to the trustee.”

So far, so good, but you’ll have to glance over the photos in order to appreciate how clean this Leone is. Every single bit and bob works, including the digital instrument cluster as well as the shift-on-the-fly 4WD system. According to the seller, the car before your eyes features an “excellent interior, it fires right up from a cold start, and runs perfectly.”

There are, however, a few signs that 36 years have passed since the Japanese wagon rolled off the assembly line. Light surface rust is the only issue to speak of, which is understandable because Aptos is located right next to Monterey Bay. The eBay seller considers this Subaru “a barn find, which is great, but that also means that some maintenance will be required.”

Equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission during an era when Ford also offered four speeds in the F-Series line of pickups, the Leone in GL Turbo specification takes its mojo from a 1.8-liter engine. The EA-82T, as Subaru calls it, develops in the ballpark of 110 horsepower and very little torque. But nevertheless, bear in mind this car wasn’t designed to go anywhere fast.
