No Series Version for BMW's Concept CS

Recently unveiled at the New York auto show in March 2008, the BMW Concept CS won't reach mass production, the German company's representatives announced yesterday. BMW decided not to produce a series version of the car especially due its costs, Autonews reported citing BMW officials, with the vehicle “not meeting the internal requirements for rates of return.”

Although no clear reason for this decision was mentioned, Friedrich Eichiner, BMW board member for corporate and brand development, said the German car manufacturer intends to concentrate on future technologies and systems that would help them reduce overall production costs and bring new and more fuel efficient engines. Efficient Dynamics is just one of these technologies, Eichiner said, with more products to be developed in the near future. "In other words, we are pushing ahead Efficient Dynamics and Project i as part of our strategy Number ONE," Eichiner told Autonews.

BMW's Concept CS has similar dimensions to the E65 7-series and comes in a single body configuration, namely a 4-door sedan. As mentioned, the vehicle was displayed at various 2007 international auto shows, with the last one held in 2008 in New York.

Back in April, the German carmaker said it intends to push the model to mass production after tons of positive feedback after 2007 auto shows which underlined that Concept CS may bring record sales if it goes in production. The announcement was recently followed by a new rumor surrounding the car which said that Concept CS may actually reach mass production in the form of BMW Gran Turismo. However, today's news seem to clarify Concept CS' future, with no production model for the four-door sedan with coupe-type styling.
