The i sub-brand from BMW is certainly a gateway to the future. You know how Germans are, how practical they think and how their strategies can take down mountains in a matter of minutes.
Therefore, it would be a terrible mistake to consider their massive investment into the i sub-brand just a marketing plan meant to bring the i3 and i8 models into focus. No, their research will pay off in more than one way.

We're already seeing new technologies and materials infused into new models and, according to Car Advice, we're going to see even more i cars on the road. The company is already working on new models.

New reports claim that the Bavarian company already filed to register all the model names ranging from i1 to i9 and that can mean only one thing. Furthermore, the BMW i3's project manager, Roland Kowalski, said at the launch of the i3 in Holland that each name could be used in the near future, for some car.

“It may be possible [to have every i number] but for now we have the i3 and the i8. We’re thinking about a few options. But we have time [to bring it to market],” said Kowalski.

When asked about SUVs, Kowalski said they are not included in the plans for now.

“We’re not thinking about SUV on i models. For BMW i we are talking about an urban concept for megacities. The thing with the SUVs is nobody, more than 90 per cent, needs four-wheel drive for the city. The SUV trend is only a thing about the space or the roominess."
