No Room for 2 Series Gran Coupe in the US, Says BMW Chief

With the 4 Series Gran Coupe close by, we’re terribly curious whether the Bavarians will follow the same road with their latest Coupe, the 2 Series. According to Dr. Herbert Diess, chances are slim, at least for the US.
In a recent interview for Ward’s Auto, the Development chief said that the company is unlikely to offer such a model, considering that there’s no need to offer a smaller sedan than the 3 Series, especially in the US.

Naturally, such a model would go head to head with the offerings from Audi (A3 Sedan) and Mercedes-Benz (CLA-Class) but apparently, BMW isn’t worried about losing a niche market, a weird approach for a company that spread its tentacles in almost every possible segment lately.

Another possible plan of the Munich-based company might be the upcoming 2 Series Active Tourer. The new car might give the other Germans a run for their money, despite not being a sedan but more of an MPV-oriented vehicle.
