The Nissan Altima (any generation) is a very common sight on American roads, and while it wasn`t as popular as some other Japanese sedans, it still sold extremely well, and now, the Japanese automaker has announced the sale of the 4 millionth example. Nissan has also been able to price it competitively, as it is built in the US, there are no heavy import taxes to worry about.
The actual car was sold earlier this month, and it was one of the many cars sold so far in the year, beating the previous record of 284,762 units, set in 2007. The Altima is a well-balanced car, which does not do anything spectacularly good, yet it Nissan say that 25% of the buyers of the most recent model, are former Toyota or Honda owners, while 11.6% used to own a premium-branded car - the car does have an admittedly nice-looking cabin, but it still lags behind the actual premium contenders, we say.

Since the first Altima rolled off the line at the Nissan Smyrna Vehicle Assembly plant in 1992, the nameplate’s reputation for quality and reliability has grown stronger with each new model [ . . . ] The 2013 Altima lives up to this standard with its five-star NCAP safety rating, and it adds best-in-class fuel economy as well as class-leading style and content,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president of sales and marketing.
