Nissan Murano Convertible to Debut at Los Angeles Auto Show

The story of the Nissan Murano Convertible has been generating waves on the web for quite a while, but now the car is sure to come to life, as Insideline reports.

The two-door drop-top version of the Murano will make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It is unclear what kind of removable top Nissan has chosen to use for the vehicle, with one of the expected solutions being a system similar to that used by the (now defunct) Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible.

The Murano Convertible will be released as a 2012 model, with the car expected to hit showroom floors in spring next year.

Various media reports show that the topless version of the Murano will only offer two doors and use the same 3.5 liter V6 petrol engine as the standard incarnation of the car. However, being a convertible, the vehicle is expected to tip the scales higher. But who knows, maybe Nissan will manage to make some magic to save the vehicle’s fuel economy and even its performance.

What can we say? We’re not exactly fond of the Murano Convertible. On the other hand, the idea of such a vehicle is interesting. After all, this is a meaning of the “crossover term” – many automakers just like to use it for SUV that fail to offer any off-road capacities.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Japanese automotive producer will manager to deliver a face that not only a mother can love. Even so, we can’t see the vehicle as being more than an interesting car that will convince ultra-niche customers.
