Nissan Micra DIG-S Prices Starting at £11,500

The Nissan Micra used to be a compact car loved by all, especially by European city dwellers back when hybrids and electric cars weren’t the things that carmakers’ marketing teams focused on. There’s a new one on the market, but due to the Asian-ized design, it never managed to capture our imagination.

The DIG-S (which stands for Direct Injection Gasoline – Supercharged) will soon roam UK streets, as the Japanese carmaker has announced availability and pricing in Britain. First deliveries for the Micra DIG-S, which starts at £11,500, will begin on September 1st, and the model promises a lot of economy for the buck, as the carmaker says it offers the performance of a bigger petrol engine with the fuel economy of a diesel.”

Basically, we’re talking about a 1.2-liter 98 horsepower engine that offers 95g/km for the Visia version and 99g/km for the better-equipped Acenta and Tekna models. Official fuel consumption is 68.9mpg or 65.7mpg on the combined cycle.

The DIG-S Micra costs £1,000 more than the equivalent non-supercharged version and is available with a five-speed manual gearbox. The basic version costs £11,150, the Acenta £12,150 and the Tekna £13,650. If you want the CVT gearbox to do the shifting for you, that will cost £1,000 extra.

The engine in the DIG-S achieves the improvements in power and economy through a series of measures to improve efficiency. “Direct injection, valve timing control with eco mode, improved exhaust gas recirculation, specially shaped pistons and a higher compression ratio ensure the most power is extracted from every drop of fuel,” Nissan says.
