Nissan, one of the manufacturers with the most visible displays present at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show is giving the world a preview of how its sedans might be shaped in the future (Nissan officialy denies this is a preview of a future model) by presenting the Ellure Concept, a model created to be simple, yet modern, as the carmaker says.

The Ellure has been created with a green drivetrain in mind. The version shown is LA has been conceived to revolve around the carmaker's recently devised technologies. This type of drivetrain is a hybrid like no other, which comprises a gasoline engine, an electric motor and the Intelligent Dual Clutch Control.

In the Ellure case, the drivetrain comprises a supercharged 2.5l inline 4-cylinder engine. The Intelligent Dual Clutch Control, built as a one motor-two clutch system, works by pairing the combustion engine with the clutch and an electric motor which develops 25 kW. They are all linked to an Xtronic CVT transmission and front-wheel drive system.

The Ellure concept is part of Nissan's range of low CO2 and low fuel consumption products. The "PURE DRIVE" badge which certifies this has been slapped onto a body which is as simple as it is futuristic.

With the grille inspired by a Samurai formal coat, the rear designed to be reminiscent of the "Torii" Shinto shrine gate and 90-degree opening doors with rear-hinged rear doors, the Ellure is poised to be one of the main attractions of the LA show.

"As an expression of our long-term vision for the next generation of great Nissan sedans, Ellure allows us to introduce a new sedan concept – one that honors the sedan's unmatched daytime functionality, yet has a more emotive, almost hidden ambience that comes to life after dark,” said Shiro Nakamura, Nissan chief creative officer.

“It's an ideal fit for the needs of its projected owners, women in their '30s and '40s with a sense of sophistication and rebellion."
