Nissan Continues Child Safety Efforts

Nissan's North American arm recently announced its planned participation in the Vehicle-CRS Fit Program, a future project introduced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that is aimed at helping consumers choose the proper child restraint systems for their vehicles.

"To address the need for increased compatibility between vehicles and child restraint systems, NHTSA recently announced that it would establish a new consumer information program to disseminate a list of child restraints that vehicle manufacturers suggest fit properly in their individual vehicles on Safercar.gov," stated the press release.

The NHTSA hasn't announced the final details of the initiative yet, but the issue of child restraint safety is already a priority for Nissan, which has already introduced an initiative connected to this, the Snug Kids program, that came to the world back in 2002. The result of this project was the Snug Kids Child Safety Fit Guide, which helps parents select a child restraint that fits their vehicle.

The initiative was introduced after the company learned that certain customers found it difficult to select the right child safety seats for their vehicles. This includes professional evaluations that cover a wide range of products.

"Nissan is committed to passenger safety – including the safety of children, our most precious cargo," said Bob Yakushi, director of product safety, Nissan North America. "We began Snug Kids to aid caretakers in the purchase and installation of child restraint systems, and fully support NHTSA's direction."
