It turns out that 30 mph (under 50 km/h) is too much speed in some cases, and for those who are finding such a thing hard to believe, this video should be proof enough.
With old and spent tires and rain even some of the simplest turns may become a trap, even at low speed. Add in the possibility that some oily patches hidden by the wet road could be silently waiting for the unaware rider and the less-than-ideal track through the turn, and the recipe for a wipeout is complete.

We watched the video several times and we can clearly see that the rider had been slowing down for a long distance so excessive braking force could be easily ruled out. However, we cannot eliminate the possibility that he was still lightly pressing the rear brake lever, just enough to cause the wheel to skid a bit and subsequently lose control of the bike.

Luckily, he's not hurt; as for the bike, it'll live. Drive safe!
