Nicky Hayden Wants to Fight for Wins in 2010

Nicky Hayden started off in the 2010 MotoGP campaign much better than last year, scoring a bunch of 4th places and sitting 10 points ahead of his teammate Casey Stoner. He is currently tied in 4th place with Valentino Rossi and, although yet to score a podium, is seen as a much bigger threat in the front of the field as compared to his rookie year at Ducati.

Nevertheless, the Kentucky Kid made it very clear that while optimistic about his form this season, he cannot be completely happy with his position in the overall classification. After all, following his championship title year in 2006, he has hardly challenged for a race win and he expected more from his Ducati move than just ride the bike in the middle of the field.

When I signed up for Ducati, I didn't expect to run around at the back and I don't believe they did either. To be tied for fourth in the championship, I think we've had a solid start. But we're not overly happy,” said Hayden ahead of this weekend's Catalunya Grand Prix.

We feel close, we've been close at times. But it's that next step - to really get up there and challenge the top couple of guys week in, week out - that we haven't been able to make and it's frustrating.”

However, he insisted that the feeling this year is much more positive that in 2009, and is hopeful that with some minor adjustments he can make a difference in the current campaign.

I'm really happy with the bike and the team, and I feel so much more comfortable on the bike and I'm having a lot more fun than I did last year, really enjoying riding the bike. So all that's good, but we always want more and want to take that next step.”

Recent rumors have suggested that Valentino Rossi might have already agreed to a deal with Ducati for next season, but Hayden will not be targeted, as it's believed Stoner will be the one replaced by the Doctor. A definitive announcement on Rossi's 2010 plans is expected to be launched this weekend.
