We’re sure you are well aware of the benefits of having Electronic Stability Control (ESC or ESP) fitted to your car, as it dramatically reduces the chances of skidding off the road, in situations of low grip and excessive speed, where normally the car would go straight and plough into the nearest obstacle, braking each wheel individually, and limiting the engine’s power, to keep the vehicle pointing in the right direction.
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is also very pleased with the technology, and they say it truly is saving lives. According to their data, ESC has saved some 2,200 lives since it became mandatory, in 2008, until 2010 (634 people saved in 2008, 705 in 2009 and 863 in 2010).

The official NHTSA statement said: “Research has consistently shown ESC systems are especially effective in helping a driver maintain vehicle control and avoid some of the most dangerous types of crashes on the highway, including deadly vehicle rollover situations or in keeping drivers from completely running off the roadway.
