Carbon fiber use in motorcycle helmet manufacturing increases with each passing season and this means safer, lighter headgear for the discerning rider. And since prices went down quite a bit compared to how much a carbon helmet used to sell for no longer than 5 or 6 years ago, it's really nice to see Icon showing their latest creation, the Aiframe Carbon RR.
This full-face helmet weighs in at only 1450 grams (3.2 lbs) and comes with a carbon fiber shell meeting the DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (Europe), SAI AS1698 (Australia) & SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. The dark smoke visor is provided with the helmet, while classic features such as the removable breath deflector and chin curtain, or the removable, washable interior are of course, present.
The fog-free visor sports a quick-change construction and the Prolock locking system. The Icon Aiframe Carbon RR comes with multiple oversized intake and exhaust ports for increased ventilation. Hopefully they also close well for cold-weather riding.
The Icon Aiframe Carbon RR also boasts a high-tech spoiler to reduce buffeting at high speed, and retails for a decent $515 (€395).
