With plenty of sales, features, economy and safety on its side, the 2012 Hyundai Elantra seemed unbeatable... until now. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been notified of a potentially damaging safety flaw with the car that could ruin its flawless reputation.

"The photographs of the model year 2012 Hyundai Elantra provided by the vehicle owner show a metal component protruding from the left edge of the headliner above the driver's seat," said the safety agency. “It appears that the metal component caused a laceration to the driver's ear/face.”

That’s going to easily deter people from buying the car, so how has Hyundai reacted?

The automaker says that the evaluation of the system is in the early stages. However, Hyundai did point to the fact that there have been no other incidents that came as a result of the same flaw.

So, if you’ve bought a 2012 Elantra, be aware that a recall might be in the works.
