Next-gen Ford Sync to Drop Microsoft, Use Blackberry QNX

Word has it Ford Motor Company won't base its next-generation Sync system on Microsoft's Windows, but turn to Blackberry's QNX, Automotive News reports.

Quoting people familiar with the matter, the source says that the QNX-based Sync will feature improved flexibility and speed. Additionally, it will be less expensive to license compared to Microsoft's technology.

Blackberry's QNX system is currently available in various cars made by Audi and BMW, but the company delivers technology to customers such as Cisco Systems, General Electric and Caterpillar as well.

Ford Motor Company has more than seven million vehicles on the road today with the Microsoft voice-activated software.
