Toyota launched yesterday onto the Japanese market its fifth generation Crown Majesta, the company's top sedan. The redesigned Majesta features all round modifications, with visual and interior upgrades mated on a tweaked powerplant.
The Majesta comes in both two and four wheel drive platforms. The two-wheel drive models boast a 4.6l V8 engine, paired with an 8 Super ECT transmission. The 4.3l V8 and 4.6l V8 engines used on the four-wheel drive versions are fitted with advanced D-4S fuel injection system, coupled with electronically-controlled Variable Valve Timing-intelligent system (VVT-iE).
Electronically-controlled air suspension is available for all versions and it is mated to the navigation system of the car. Suspensions are being fed information about the accumulated road surface-difference and then optimizes shock-absorber damping force to enhance handling, cruising stability. The new Crown Majesta has 75 mm longer wheelbase than the previous version, but still remains under the 5 meter total length threshold.
Safety systems used on the Majesta include front-side Pre-crash Safety System, a Night View infrared camera to detect pedestrians, objects and sections of the road in front of the vehicle and ten SRS airbags, standard on all versions.
The Type A version has a fuel efficiency of 10.6l/km and CO2 emissions of 247g/km. All versions of the new Crown (Type G, Type G "F Package", Type C and Type A "L Package") meet the 2010 fuel efficiency standards specified by the Japanese Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy.
Even if the CO2 figures are still high, Toyota says all vehicles in the series achieve emissions levels that are 75 lower than the 2005 standards. The new Crown Majesta was designed under the manufacturer's Eco-Vehicle Assessment System.
