Director / screenwriter Christopher Nolan loves nothing more than to play tricks with the audience’s mind – and time-travel. His latest film, the upcoming TENET, aims to do both, while delivering plenty of breathtaking action scenes.
Like all Nolan movies, this project too was wrapped in secrecy from the start. Even today, when the release date is supposedly only two months away, nothing much about it is known, except for some vague mention that it would use time-travel in the context of a drama on international espionage. Which… is not really saying much.

Starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh, the plot of TENET is a secret even to its stars. In a recent interview, Pattinson admitted that he didn’t know how to answer the question of what the movie was about: Nolan never said and he never got to see the finished product.

However, unlike the teaser that dropped in December, this second preview does offer a bit more insight into how Nolan will basically be reinventing action scenes by using his all-time favorite theme of time-travel. It’s called “inversion” here and it can become a tool in the hands of whoever knows about it.

This second, longest trailer delivers ample doses of adrenaline through action scenes on both land and water, while still keeping the plot under wraps. You get car crashes, chases on water, and even planes being driven through massive hangars, explosions, shoot-outs and sequences that bend the laws of physics and alter the fabric of reality.

The most interesting part about the trailer comes at the very end, though: three words that read “coming to theaters.” As of the time of writing, Warner Bros. still has TENET on track to a July 17 international release, so it could just be the first big movie to invite audiences back into theaters. Whether audiences will be paying heed to this invitation is an entirely different story.

Until then, here’s the crash boom bang promised in the headline:
