Ram sells the 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks in America, but has now come up with a smaller model. If you were expecting it to be called the 500, well, guess again. The model goes by the name of Ram 1200.
It is basically a Peugeot Landtrek built in China, specifically designed for markets in Central and South America, and there is no sign that it will ever cross the border to the US.

Ram offers the 1200 with a single engine option. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, which generates 210 horsepower and 226 pound-feet of torque. Customers can either go for a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. They can also choose between a rear-wheel or a rear-wheel drive, with the latter being exclusively available for the Laramie trim.

Ram sells the 1500 pickup truck in several variants, such as the all-new RHO, the TRX, and Classic, while the 2500 and 3500 round up the brand's pickup truck portfolio. Meanwhile, Mexico also receives the 700 compact model and will receive the future midsized 1200.

The latter has been leaked long before its official debut, which, according to the dealership that uploaded the photos on social media, will arrive later in 2024 as a 2025 model year. The model has been spied testing on public roads since 2023.

Former auto group FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), which merged with PSA to form Stellantis back in January 2021, has used the 1200 nameplate before. Back then, it was on a Fiat Fullback, the result of a collaboration between Fiat and Mitsubishi.

Assembled in Thailand by the Japanese automaker, the pickup was marketed in the Middle East and Africa between 2016 and 2019.

This time, the 1200 is basically a rebadged Peugeot Landtreck, which will roll off the same production line as its French sibling in Shenzen, China.

But there will be something that will set them apart. Unlike the Landtreck, the Ram 1200 will be available as both a single- and a double-cab body styles. There are also several styling elements that differentiate the two. The Ram will get a new front grille with the Ram badging.

The Tradesman Regular Cab will sport a towing capacity of approximately 6,600 pounds (2,994 kilograms) and a loading capacity of 2,650 pounds (1,202 kilograms).

Ram will reportedly unveil the 1200 in June and the truck will go into production this summer. The model will start at MX$444,900, which is the equivalent of $26,600, going all the way to MX$668,900 ($39,992).

The 1200 will not arrive in America. However, Ram is planning to introduce a smaller truck, which will slot underneath the 1500 in the lineup. The model is expected to revive the Dakota nameplate. The Ram Rampage will also reportedly be sold in the US.
