While Porsche is keeping us all busy with the 2015 Cayenne facelift, enthusiasts also have other things to worry about. We’re talking 911 GT3 RS here and the what fans are dying to know is whether this will jump the turbo bandwagon or not. While we can’t open the champagne bottle yet, we’ve prepared a dozen of them, since the latest spy video hints that the GT3 RS will continue to spell sweet natural aspiration.
Porsche engineers were spied testing the new 911 GT3 RS on the Nurburgring (their usual morning routine these days) and, by the looks sound of it, this flat six is breating without the rumored turbochargers.

To be more specific, forced induction 911 have a growl that’s a bit deeper and yet less loud than naturally-aspirated ones. Well, the GT3 RS prototype in the video, which comes from Bridge to Gantry, seems to be closer to the latter category. Even the PDK gearshifts spoken as the sportscar negotiates the Karussell seem to suggest this.

However, the turbo path for the 991-generation GT3 RS has been sustained by more than one clue. First of all, the hungry air vents on the rear wings are a trademark of this, having only been used on 911 Turbo and GT2 (RS included) models in the past.

Moreover, the rumor mill talked about the current 3.8-liter flat six block had already been pushed to the specific output limit with the 475 hp of the GT3 and that strapping a pair of turbos would be the solution. That also falls in line with other rumors, indicating that Porsche may not release a new GT2.

Well, the first info can be dismissed by remembering the 997 generation’s ultimate GT3 RS, the 4.0, which brought extra oomph by increasing the capacity from 3.8 to 4 liters. As for the second, it’s still to early in the 991 generation’s life to talk about the launch of a GT2.

We don’t think the new 911 GT3 RS will be turbocharged, not when Porsche works drivers are praising the natural aspiration of the GT3. Until we get more clues on that, we’ll remind you last month has brought us a scale model revealing the 911 GT3 RS.
