Volkswagen has invested heavily in the small crossover segment by launching the T-Cross, which is designed to cope with markets as varied as South America and China. But the French have been at this for a very long time.
The Peugeot 2008 was launched in 2013 and got a facelift in 2016, which means an all-new generation should be coming out next year. What's more, if you look at the model as a spacious little car and not a crossover, the automaker has been cranking out those for a while longer. Who remembers the 1007 with its funky sliding doors? Probably nobody.
The point is, we expect the all-new 2008 to become one of the go-to posh small crossovers in Europe, and according to Auto Bild, this is happening next year. And with the all-new 208 also expected to come out soon, it's looking like a busy year for Peugeot.
The EMP modular platform is going to make their life a little bit easier. Some of the engineering work has already been carried out for the posh DS3 crossover model, which recently made its debut. The engines are going to be shared between the two.
In the gasoline department, that means anywhere between 86 and 120 HP in the gasoline department, while the 1.5 diesel will offer three stages of tune ranging from 86 to 115 HP. The 2008 will remain an FWD-only type of crossover, which is a formula also adopted by the VW T-Cross and all the rivals.
Some rival models do offer a bit more power, like the 150 HP SEAT Ateca or the similarly grunty Renault Captur S-Edition. But nobody has an EV version, at least not yet. The little Peugeot is going to receive one later in its life, and with a total range of 350 kilometers, it will be quite competitive. As for the design, a few things are changing, probably in line with the 508.
