Just a few weeks after announcing prices for the Corsa OPC at the Geneva Motor Show, Opel has also introduced a less hardcore version for those who want their performance cooked medium. The model is called the Corsa 1.4 Turbo and has 150 horsepower.
That's basically everything most people will want to know about the car, but we're Opel fans and we wanted more. The 1.4-liter turbo is similar in output to the one used by the Adam S, packing 150 PS (110 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. It's only going to be available with a 6-speed gearbox and it claims that it can return 5.9L/100km (47.8 mpg UK) on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 136 g/km.

Frankly, we don't find that very impressive and neither is the 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds or the top speed of 207 km/h (128 mph).

You see, the competition kind of does it a little better. For example, the Volkswagen Polo BlueGT has the exact same 150 horsepower from a 1.4-liter engine, but it needs only 7.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h and it consumes over 1 liter less fuel. If you really want something that boggles the mind, the standard Polo with a 1.2-liter engine and 110 hp only need 9.3 seconds to reach the benchmark speed.

And just so you can't say we're taking Volkswagen's side, a Peugeot 208 with the 1.6-liter, 156 hp engine needs 7.3 seconds for its sprint, plus it's also cheaper than the Polo BlueGT and on par with the Corsa.

Speaking of which, we have to mention that the €17,380 price of the Corsa 1.4 Turbo is its main forte. But it needs to be pointed out that the car in these photos, released by Opel, has been fitted with the optional Turbo Plus Package that adds front and rear spoilers, OPC side skirts and black wheels. If those options are taken into consideration, a 136 hp MINI Cooper costing €19,900 also sounds like an attractive proposition.
