This handsome looking retro ride for the gentleman in you is the new Morgan Plus 8, a two-seater from the famed British sportscar maker that will officially bow at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The biggest thing it’s got going for it is that it’s the lightest V8-powered car in the world that meets European safety laws... allegedly.
The 1,100 kg retro-mobile is good for having fun in, but it’s also supposed to be comfortable, as it’s available with a six-speed automatic transmission for those long cruises. But that 4.8-lite V8 lump is best had with an old-fashioned stick. However, the auto has some cool party tricks, like being operated in two modes, Sport and Auto. In Sport, the next cog will only be selected once you’ve reached a howling 6,500 rpm.
As for the power itself, the Plus 8 gets either 367 British horses or 390 of them if you go for the sports exhaust system. This is enough to scare your lady friend, and to get you to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.5 seconds.
