The success South Korean manufacturer is enjoying on the European market is prompting the manufacturer into devising new expansion plans. At the core of those plans are, of course, a few new models.
Kia confirmed this week, through the voice of In-Kyu Bae, the head of Kia Motors Slovakia, that the car maker's local plant is getting ready to receive the production of a new model, no later than 2012.
“We launched two new models this year and we want to launch a new model in 2012,” said the Kia official during a meeting with local journalists, without providing any details on the model to join the range.
The manufacturer presented this week is latest goodie for the European market, the facelifted version of one of its most acclaimed models on the continent, the Pro_cee'd.
The two-door version of the Ceed model will be offered with a choice of six engines, equally divided between petrol and diesel lovers. The engines comprise a 1.6liter diesel unit which develop 115 horsepower and 90 horsepower.
The first encounter the model will have with the European public will be the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, where other exciting Kia models are expected as well.
The expansion of the offering in Europe is essential to the stated goal of the Hyundai-Kia group of becoming one of the key global players. The group is already on route to become the fourth largest manufacturer in the world next year, if we are to judge by this year's 5.7 million cars sold and 2011's target of 6.4 million.
