New Iveco ECODAILY Tippers Delivered to Colas

Colas has taken delivery of a fleet of four brand-new ECODAILY 7 tonne tippers and has already put them to work on a private finance initiative (PFI) with Portsmouth City Council. The vehicles will be used to maintain and mange the city’s highway infrastructure.

The four vehicles were supplied by Iveco dealer Hendy Van & Truck and are among the first ECODAILY 70C17 chassis cabs to enter operation in the UK. Colas has previously taken delivery of a number of Iveco’s 6.5 tonne Daily light commercials.

“Trading up to the new 7 tonne ECODAILY delivers a healthy payload increase over our previous 6.5 tonne models whilst keeping the vehicle’s footprint identical, which means we benefit from the same impressive turning circle and maneuverability,” said Trevor Purfield, National Plant & Transport Manager at Colas.

These new additions replace a fleet of less efficient 3.5 tonne tippers and will service the PFI contract for the next five years. A tough working life of seven-day work weeks and 20,000 miles per year awaits the Iveco vehicles.

Each one has an unladen weight of 3,340 kg or 7,363 lbs (including body-mounted toolbox), and a competitive payload capacity of 3,660 kg (8024 lbs). An environmentally friendly 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine is found under the bonnet, producing 170 hp between 2,990 and 3,500 rpm and up to 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque between 1,250 and 2,990 rpm.

“In comparison with our lighter 3.5 tonne tippers it ensures we have the flexibility to carry heavier items such as paving stones to a site without having to make multiple trips in the same vehicle. This saves us clocking-up any unnecessary road miles and helps to minimize our impact on the environment,” Purfield added.
