Gamescom is Europe’s largest gaming event. As usual, this year too it will take place in Cologne, Germany starting August 21.
Unlike their American counterparts, European gamers do not have a taste of the automotive industry blending in at such events, but that is about to change this year.

Ford plans to make history at the event two weeks from now by presenting the first ever vehicle to attend the local gamer gathering. This will happen at the carmaker’s booth on the premises of the event, with the car expected to be there for more than just show and tell.

The carmaker did not say what vehicle it will be bringing to Cologne, saying only it will be a new performance car that promises to "bring the fun back to on- and off-road driving." As a clue, Ford says the car is the same one that will be added to a forthcoming racing video game.

As said, the car will not be on site only for show and tell. Ford will be placing some of those attending the show behind the wheel of the vehicle in a virtual environment, on eight racing pods and a special 4D racing simulator, built specifically for the event.

The carmaker will be keeping track of each of the players' laps and choose each day’s lap record holder as the winner of a trip to the UK, where they will spend a day with the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team.

The task at hand will not be easy. The German event draws each year 355,000 visitors to the stands of the over 900 exhibitors.

Since the city where the event is being held, Cologne, is home of Ford Europe, and at the same time the place where the Fiesta model is manufactured, the carmaker has been on site for previous Gamescom in previous years as well.
