Indian Motorcycle is rumored to reveal a new model to complement the existing Chief Dark Horse, most likely a spin-off of the Chieftain bagger. House Springfield is said to pull the wraps off the new machine on May 11.
Even though such "dark" models are often regarded as cheaper versions of their flashy, chrome-laden siblings, these machines do have a particular appeal. Now, a debate on which one looks better is a non-issue, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, one of the facts that can't be denied is that people who choose the darkened versions of a certain bike are less prone to spending big bucks in aftermarket bling, simply because it won't fit.

The original Chief Classic retails in the US at prices that start at $18,499, whereas the Chief Dark Horse comes with a price that's $1,000 lower. If this is also the case with the Chieftain, we might see its Dark version arriving with a price tag that reads $21,999 or even less.

Following the same logic that brought the Chief Dark Horse to fruition, we can expect the Dark Chieftain to look very similar, if not downright identical to its "colored" sibling. This means that the new machine will also retain the saddlebags and the front fairing, albeit painted in matte black.

The name of the Indian Chieftain Dark reportedly appeared in some CARB papers, and this indicates that things are not only rolling, but bikes are already manufactured and close to launch.

Given the fact that the Chieftain Dark is built on the same platform as the rest of the Indian machines except the Scout, and everything revolves around paint and finish, we're ready to welcome this new bike into the world. And we would not complain if Indian skipped the polished accents on the new Chieftain, delivering an entirely black machine, darker than the darkest night.
