This year, 20 veterans will get the chance to be on their way and back to Sturgis, South Dakota as a way to decompress from the challenges they have to cope with after serving in wars. The “Hero’s Ride of a Lifetime” will take these veterans on a journey from Los Angeles, CA, to Sturgis, SD.

Starting on July 30, the Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis will stop on their way to meet new people who are involved in providing relief for veterans, or who are linked to the motorcycling world, such as Jay Leno.

The Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis was created by veterans for veterans and aims to expand the number of those who can benefit from the relief motorcycle trips offer. The entire thing is based on the concept of Motorcycle Therapy that combines the feeling of traveling, the excitement of riding a motorcycle, being together with people who are experiencing the same difficulties and being helped to re-integrate into the civilian life.

In 2016, fifteen ambulatory and five amputee/disabled veterans of various military branches will be part of the Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis. The sponsoring teams of various organizations will choose the ones that will take part in the ride, but two slots are also open for the public's nominations.

If you happen to know a veteran who might appreciate and be helped by joining the ride, all you must do is reach out for “Hero’s Ride of a Lifetime” and tell the organizers why these people, male or female, deserve such an experience.

The online nomination program runs through April 15. The two open slots are on the same bike, with the one veteran riding the motorcycle being required to own a valid motorcycle license and riding experience. The second must be a disabled/amputee veteran, and he or she will ride in a Champion sidecar.

For the second consecutive year, Indian Motorcycle is the main sponsor of the Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis, aided by Champion Sidecars, Liberty Sport (official eyewear sponsor of VCR), Red Cliffs Lodge (Moab, UT), Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorney, and The Legendary Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, SD.
