Announced as a definite presence at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show, GM's response to Ford's new Ranger was revealed this weekend by Chevrolet. Called, in its initial project stage, the Colorado Show Truck, the model is a preview of the production version Colorado which will be launched later this year by the American manufacturer.

The unit presented in Thailand these days comes powered by a 2.8l turbo-diesel engine, whose performance figures were not revealed. The engine, promises Chevrolet, has been designed in such a way that “produces a broad torque band for excellent cargo and towing capability.”

Engines aside, the new Colorado is intended as a revival of the nameplate in terms of design. With a more powerful look, the pickup brings with it more fluid, compact lines, enhanced by detailing like the 20-inch wheels and off-road tires, polished aluminum in the fascias and LED lighting.

At the interior, the Colorado has been revised to include dual-zone, digital climate control system, 7-inch LCD display, motorcycle-inspired, three-dimensional gauges and details in low-gloss and soft-touch materials.

The concept feel of the model points to some possible changes to be brought to the Colorado for the production version. GM says it will release more details about the pickup for the masses in the months to come.

“Although this is a show vehicle, the basic proportions and form convey the vision for the next-generation Colorado that we will bring to market,” said Brad Merkel, GM's global vehicle line executive.

“It reflects a stylized version of the new truck, one that takes into account rugged dependable truck capabilities for commercial use as well as sophisticated refinement for personal-use needs.”
