General Motors seems to be really keen on selling affordable products in the Americas market, as it chose the Buenos Aires Motor Show taking place in Argentina as the venue in which to reveal the shape of the double cab Colorado pickup. In addition to the rally-ready off-road monster, The General also brought down something more mundane - the Chevrolet Cobalt Sedan Concept.

While the US market saw the Chevrolet Cobalt being replaced with the more global Cruze sedan, in South America the Cobalt is alive an kicking. The car you see here is actually a pre-production concept and not one of those ‘what ifs’ you’d expect to see at a motor show.

Developed by General Motors Technical Center in South America, the four-door sedan Cobalt Concept is slated to enter production within the next year. No details of the chassis were revealed, but it judging from the swept-back A pillar and the shape of the bonnet this is actually the Chevrolet Sonic (Aveo on the European market) sedan in disguise. Those intricate lights at the back and the double exhaust that’s integrated into the bumper might not make it into production, but the overall shape will.

GM said the Cobalt is a global product and will be offered with a choice of four cylinder engines ranging in displacement from 1.3 to 1.8 liters running on ethanol, petrol or diesel, with automatic and manual transmissions available.

To make the Cobalt look cool in concept form, GM has fitted it with an aero kit comprising of front and rear aprons, side skirts and a discreet boot lid spoiler. It sits on 17-inch wheels (which we really don’t like) wrapped in 255/45 R17 rubber and twin exhaust outlets.
