Frank Weber Quits GM

General Motors stated that Opel AG’s product planning chief, Frank Weber, has left the company in order to pursue some other business opportunities. After less than two years of hard working, Weber left the motoring giant probably to follow a bigger dream or to find new challenges.

Weber was also involved in the development of the Chevrolet Volt project as the lead engineer. Some rumors say the real reason why he left GM was that he quit his job to work for a competitor. GM spokesman Klaus-Peter Martin declined to elaborate on why Weber left or where he was going.

While working as an engineer for the automaker, the German foresaw all future planning for Opel vehicles. Up to this point, Opel didn’t name a successor for his position in the company. Klaus-Peter said Weber left the automaker in early April, but didn't have an exact date: "He has left the company to pursue other business opportunities.".

Frank Weber was born in Germany and joined Opel in 1991. As we mentioned before, while very involved in the Chevrolet Volt electric concept car for a couple of years, his departure from GM doesn't come as a big surprise due to the fact that Opel announced serious plans to make big changes regarding the brand's top ranks.

In March, GM named Karl Friedrich Stracke as chief executive for its Opel/Vauxhall unit, reporting to Nick Reilly, chairman of Opel and president of GM Europe. Stracke moved into a position formerly held by Hans Demant, who stepped down last year and is now at Volkswagen AG.
