One of the most eagerly anticipated new proposals in the SUV & crossover segment is the new Toyota RAV4 and now a full gallery of official images has leaked onto the web.
There are no official details so far, as the third-generation RAV4 is set to make its debut tomorrow at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. However, the vehicle’s engine range is expected to include a four-cylinder 2.5-liter delivering 178 hp and a 3.5-liter V6 with an output of 268 hp. These powerplants will be mated to a new six-speed automatic gearbox, which can work with an optional four-wheel drive system.
Notice how we tried to avoid talking about the styling? That’s because we really didn’t want to place a negative spotlight on the new RAV4, but how can we not do that? The first RAV4 was the car credited for inventing the SUV segment, bringing high ground clearance to people who weren’t wearing blue collars, but this new one seems to have lost its visual identity.
You can say what you want about the new RAV4’s look, call it smart, Lexus-like and so on, but its image seems to vanish from our minds the second we close the browser window.
