New 200 and 300 Will Be First S Chryslers

Comprising the good-looking new 300 sedan, the Sebring-based 200 sedan/convertible and the re-engineered Town & Country minivan, Chrysler’s 2011 lineup looks stronger than ever. In order to increase the appeal of its products to a younger audience, the Detroit carmaker could offer “S” trim levels, starting with the 200 and 300, according to a recent Car and Driver post.

If you found an “S” badge on an European cars, it would stand for something like Sport or Superleggera, but in Chrysler’s case it could also stand for style.

“The Chrysler-brand S models are all about style and attitude. These models are different than the traditional Chrysler models, and we believe the S models will attract folks to the brand that maybe wouldn’t have considered the traditional Chrysler models,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of Chrysler product marketing.

According to Car an Driver, the first model to arrive will be the 200 S, which will sport four paint hues: red, black, silver, and white. Both four-door sedan and 2-door convertible models should arrive with 18-inch wheels, smoked headlight surrounds, and a black-chrome grille fitted as standard. The car will be a late arrival, appearing in mid-2011.

While branded as more of a luxury offering, Chrysler is also considering S trim for the four-cylinder 200, as well as the six-cylinder 300. If this is the case, than we can expect the styling package to have different equipment levels depending on the engine variant chosen.

“There could be an S model for both the [300] Limited and C. They could be entirely different from each other, each representing a style and attitude appropriate for each price class,” a company insider was quoted as saying.
