When the New York-based design and manufacturing company Jacob & Co. brought the Astronomia Troubillon unique timepiece at last year’s BaselWorld the rare beauty stole the show. Like that wasn’t the ultimate accessory to simply redefine abundance, the jewelry maker now has come with one even more impressive.
Created as a poetic visual rendering of the celestial world, the Astronomia Tourbillon is made of 18K Rose Gold and Diamond micro-particule policarbonate fiber and has every element in constant, visible motion.
Imagine that when you look at your drop-dead expensive timepiece you literally see some of the night’s sky world moving around, the Earth, the Moon and time. Small pieces of sapphire crystal are divided into a series of windows and one large one over the top. Whether you opt for the version with or for the one without diamonds, the extravaganza will not miss.
The movement of the watch is placed on a series of four arms that rotate around the whole dial every 20 minutes. In order to create the most complex spectacle, the arms also move, which keeps the dial to indicate the time in the proper orientation, as well as operating the tourbillon. Then there’s a faceted spherical diamond that rotates in 60 seconds on 2 axes, a titanium tourbillon cage rotating on 3 axes.
All the elements of this unique work of art function in perfect unison to create a genuinely astonishing piece of engineering. According to Luxury Launches, the Astronomia Tourbillon timepiece without diamonds is priced at 540,000 Swiss Francs ($548,000) while the full options, Astronomia Tourbillon Baguette is 1,000,000 Swiss Francs (around $1,015,000).
