Navistar Presents International TerraStar Class 4/5 Work Truck

The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Work Truck Show has brought to the public Navistar’s International TerraStar Class 4/5 commercial truck. The new truck has a new range of commercial-duty features, like a MaxxForce 7 V8 diesel engine or the largest cabin available in the Class 4/5 trucks.

“The International TerraStar comes from the same blood lines as the rest of our commercial truck line-up,”
said Jack Allen, president, Navistar’s North American Truck Group. “Its commercial-duty design will change the game in the work truck market by offering one of the most capable, most versatile and most drivable trucks in its class.”

The new International TerraStar is powered by a 300 horsepower 6.4-liter MaxxForce 7 V-8 engine, which delivers 660 lb.-ft. torque. The engine block is built from compacted graphite iron (CGI) and offers high strength while keeping the weight down. The engine is mated to a commercial-duty Allison 1000 transmission.

CO2 emissions are kept to a minimum level using MaxxForce Advanced EGR emissions technology, the only no-hassle emissions technology in its class. The advantage of the MaxxForce Advanced EGR technology is that it does not require filling with liquid urea.

“With the introduction of the International TerraStar powered by the MaxxForce 7, there is no other truck manufacturer in the industry today with as complete a line-up of integrated trucks and engines,” Allen added. “The addition of TerraStar gives us a product line-up that can serve virtually any truck need, spanning from Class 4 to Class 8.”

The TerraStar will initially be available with a 4x2 drivetrain, while a 4x4 drivetrain is planned for 2011.
