Nakajima Targets Strong 2009 to Secure Williams Seat

The news that GP2's newly crowned champion Nico Hulkenberg has some close to 100 percent chances of joining Williams F1 Team next season as full-time race driver seems to have put the pressure on Japanese driver Kazuki Nakajima. Although the media reports recently showed Hulkenberg will replace Nico Rosberg at the Grove based team, Nakajima still believes only a good result in the final 4 races of the season can secure him another year in the series.

Frank Williams is yet to make an official announcement on the 2010 lineup, which means the officials back at Grove are still evaluating their options for the upcoming season. Therefore, Nakajima is still on for a contract extension. And he has every intent to secure that, starting the very Singapore Grand Prix next weekend.

"Nothing has come up yet, but I'm still pushing hard to get something. I need to get better results; I'm sure my performance is better than last year but I haven't had the results, so that's a bit of a problem. For the driver market, nobody seems to have decided on anything. If some people make a move, then things will start to happen after that," said Nakajima in a preview for the Singapore GP.

With the prospect of Williams switching back to Renault engine after more than a decade in Formula One - bear in mind the fact that Nakajima is still part of Toyota's young development programme - the Japanese sophomore admitted he would love to stay for one more year at Grove.

"I'm sure there are still some things I can show them. This team has become like a home for me, I know all the guys, so I would like to stay. My performances are certainly better than last year in terms of qualifying and in the races. But also the car's performance has been better than last year. So everything is getting there, just somehow the results haven't come. It's been a bit frustrating sometimes," added the Japanese driver.
