As Tesla works on several projects, a mysterious prototype was spotted at Giga Berlin during a regular drone fly-by. The car was partly covered in camouflage, which sparked speculations about what it may represent. Some people think it might be a Redwood prototype, while others think it might be part of the Model Y redesign.
Tesla started deliveries of the Cybertruck and the refreshed Model 3 last year, completing a hectic year for new vehicle development. All eyes are now on the refreshed Model Y, also known as Project Juniper, and the affordable Gen-3 model known under the codename "Redwood." Even though the latter is not expected to launch this year, people still consider it the most important Tesla model ever.

Not only that, but they also see it wherever there's a covered prototype sporting Tesla's design language. During a recent drone fly-by at Giga Berlin, Tesla enthusiast Tobias Lindh captured an intriguing prototype sitting in a parking lot next to other Model Ys. From a distance, the car looked somehow different from the Model Ys nearby. Unfortunately, Tobias only discovered the prototype after uploading the video to YouTube and doesn't have a clearer picture. The image is too blurry to allow us to draw a conclusion.

This didn't prevent people who saw images on social media to go into overdrive. However, opinions about the nature of the prototype have been mixed. Some people think this might be a prototype of the next-generation EV that Tesla is preparing to launch at an affordable price of about $25,000. It's indeed hard to believe, considering that the development of the Gen-3 platform is currently underway at Giga Texas. This means we'll probably see the first prototypes tested in Texas and, possibly, California before anywhere else.

While Tesla said Giga Berlin will eventually produce the next-gen EV sometime in the future, this will probably never happen. The production costs in Germany are too high to justify building a cost-conscious EV model in the country. If Tesla really wants to have Redwood EVs produced in Europe, it should look for a location with more favorable wages. Until now, there's no indication that Tesla is preparing to start production of a new car model at Giga Berlin.

If the car in the video is indeed a new model, it's more likely to be a refreshed Model Y, which people refer to as Project Juniper. Certainly, it makes more sense that Tesla is testing a new variant of the Model Y, an EV it already produces at Giga Berlin. This theory is further supported by a white Model Y crossing in front of the camera, providing a different perspective. You can see that the white Model Y and the covered prototype don't look much different, although the latter appears smaller than another Model Y behind it.

Of course, there's also the crowd that thinks the video is fake, especially as the unknown prototype appears to be floating in the air. This could have happened because it was lifted on a platform that was not visible to the camera from that angle. Whatever this is, Tesla certainly hides more secrets than we might know. We'd love to hear your thoughts in the Comments section below if you have any idea what's in the video below, from 19:31.
